Specialty Builds · Long Beach, CA
Most RVs leave the factory with an electrical system designed for campground hookups — not off-grid living. Factory converters that charge slowly. Undersized battery banks. No solar. If you're spending time away from hookups, that system isn't built for the life you want to live.
Voltara Systems upgrades RV solar and power systems in Long Beach, CA. We take what you have and turn it into what you actually need.
Replacing or supplementing the factory battery bank — usually a single 12V AGM — with a correctly sized lithium bank. Adding solar panels sized to your daily consumption and roof capacity. Upgrading the converter to a multi-stage charger or replacing it with an inverter-charger. Adding a pure sine wave inverter if the RV doesn't have one. The result is an RV that can comfortably run off-grid for days at a time.
Per RVIA RV electrical system standards and upgrades, factory electrical systems vary enormously between manufacturers. We assess what you have before recommending anything — sometimes the existing wiring is adequate; sometimes more is needed. We'll tell you which.
Replacing the factory AGM with a correctly sized lithium bank — more usable capacity, faster charging, longer cycle life.
Panels sized to your roof and daily consumption. Rigid or flexible depending on your roof profile. MPPT controller for maximum harvest.
Replacing the factory converter with a proper inverter-charger — handles shore power charging and provides 120V output from your bank.
A standard rooftop AC unit requires substantial battery capacity and solar input to run off-grid — achievable with a large enough bank and array but requires honest load calculation. Alternatively, a DC split system is far more efficient for off-grid cooling. See our DC split installation page for details.
It depends on roof area, obstructions — vents, AC unit, antennas — and panel type. Flexible panels fit curves and tighter spaces. We assess your specific roof before specifying the array — there's no useful answer without looking at the actual roof.
For most electrical upgrades, no — we work within the existing electrical system without modifying factory components that would affect warranty coverage. We're happy to discuss specifics for your RV model before we start.
